Our 4 GB plan supports up to 8 slots - perfect for vanilla Checkpoint / Outpost / Survival co-op or a small private squad. Our 8 GB plan (recommended) supports up to 16 slots and is the sweet spot for PvP Push and Firefight lobbies, with headroom for Mod.io content. Our 12 GB plan supports the full 32-slot PvP cap with plenty of room for heavy modded community setups. Every plan includes DDoS protection, automatic backups, and 24/7 support.
How much RAM does an Insurgency: Sandstorm server need?
Sandstorm's dedicated server scales with player count. We recommend 4 GB for an 8-slot Checkpoint co-op server, 8 GB for a 16-slot PvP lobby (our recommended pick), and 12 GB for a full 32-slot PvP or heavy modded server. If you plan to run a lot of custom missions or large Mod.io content, choose a plan with extra RAM headroom.
Can I run Push, Firefight, Skirmish, Domination, and Checkpoint on my server?
Absolutely. Our Sandstorm hosting supports every game mode - Push, Firefight, Skirmish, Domination, and Frontline for PvP, plus Checkpoint, Outpost (wave defence), Survival, Hardcore Checkpoint, and Frontline PvE for Co-op. Set your default mode and mapcycle via Game.ini or the in-panel config editor.
Can I run more than 8 players in Co-op?
Yes - although vanilla Co-op is hardcoded to 8 players, you can add the MaxPlayersOverride setting to your Engine.ini to allow more human players (up to 12+). Note that the server browser still displays 8 max due to the hardcoded lobby constant, but your extra slots will still work in-game. Our support team can help you set this up during first deployment.
Can I install mods from Mod.io?
Yes - our Sandstorm hosting has full first-class support for Mod.io. Subscribe to any mod (custom missions, weapons, factions, rulesets, hardcore mods, etc.) by adding its Mod.io ID to your Mods.txt file - our system handles the download and load automatically. Full SFTP access and the in-browser control panel let you manage load order without restrictions.
Can I run custom missions and community maps?
Absolutely. Sandstorm has a thriving custom-mission community on Mod.io. Add any custom mission's Mod.io ID to your mapcycle and Mods.txt, restart the server, and your squad can jump straight in. Custom rulesets like hardcore mods are fully supported.
Can I upgrade my Insurgency: Sandstorm plan later?
