Minecraft's Wilderness Bound update went live on 15 September 2026 for both Java Edition (26.3) and Bedrock Edition (26.50), and included is the dappled forest, a new biome built around poplar trees, red shrubs and a permanent carpet of leaf litter.

What is the dappled forest in Minecraft?
The dappled forest carries a permanent autumn look, built from these new and existing blocks:
- Poplar trees, with leaves in red, orange or yellow
- Coarse dirt patches
- Red shrubs
- Leaf litter covering the ground
- Brown mushrooms and shelf mushrooms
- Sparse spruce trees
Rabbits, foxes and cold-variant animals live here too, fitting the biome's placement near colder terrain.
Every New Minecraft Block In Wilderness Bound
The update adds a few new blocks to the game. They split naturally into three groups, depending on what you would use them for.
Building:
The full poplar wood set: logs, stripped logs, wood, stripped wood, planks, stairs, slabs, signs, hanging signs, buttons, pressure plates, doors, fences, fence gates, trapdoors and shelves, plus poplar saplings, boats and boats with chests
Concrete stairs and slabs, added in all 16 dyed colours. Concrete has only ever existed as a full block until now, so Minecraft builds didn't have a way to add a roofline or add a half-height trim without switching materials. Wilderness Bound finally adds stairs and slabs across every existing concrete colour, giving anyone chasing new Minecraft build ideas or base ideas a full colour palette.
New wool stairs and slabs, in 16 colours. Like concrete, wool never had a stair or slab block before Wilderness Bound, so softer-textured coloured builds were stuck with flat walls and blocky edges. The same dyed wool palette now works for angled roofs, trim and stepped detail, giving Minecraft builds and base ideas a second full-colour material to pair with the new concrete blocks.
Decoration:
Cushions, added in all 16 colours, are Mojang's answer to letting players sit down, something Minecraft had never had before. Sitting used to mean faking it with a half-slab or a boat parked in the right spot, but now a placed cushion gives you a real seat in whatever colour matches your base ideas or build.
Straw beds, a single-use bed that doesn't reset your spawn point. Crafted from three hay bales, a straw bed lets you sleep through the night in the Overworld without resetting where you respawn, but it only works once. The bed breaks the moment you wake up or leave it mid-sleep. It isn't bouncy like a regular bed, and unlike a hay bale it won't cushion a fall.
Survival:
Shelf mushrooms, in small and large variants, bouncy once fully grown. They start small and flat, then grow into a large, springy shape you can bounce on, similar in feel to a slime block but grown rather than crafted. Like brown mushrooms, they're also usable in mushroom stew. If you've looked up how to grow mushrooms in Minecraft before, shelf mushrooms grow the same way and the difference only shows up once they're fully grown.
Mushroom stew now accepts any combination of mushrooms, where the old recipe demanded exactly one red mushroom and one brown mushroom. Two of any mushroom type works now, including the new shelf mushrooms, so a full inventory of just one type of mushroom is enough instead of needing to track down both.
What Is the Abandoned Camp in Minecraft?
Wilderness Bound also adds the abandoned camp, a small structure built around an empty tent and a campfire. It generates across a long list of Overworld biomes, including the dappled forest itself, meadows, cherry groves, several forest and taiga variants, swamps, savannas and wooded badlands.
Each camp uses white wool stairs, straw beds and fences that match the biome it spawns in, and some include extra features such as stone shelters, ponds, small farms or overgrown decoration. Loot sits in chests, barrels or, occasionally, a hidden oxidised copper chest.
Camps can also contain explorer maps pointing to ancient cities, mineshafts, desert pyramids and warm ocean ruins, as well as maps to other abandoned camps, so finding one camp gives you a reason to go looking for the next.
