How to Allow Flying on Your Minecraft Server

Enable flight on your Minecraft server by configuring the Allow Flight setting in the Wabbanode Control Panel.

By default, Minecraft servers disable flight to prevent cheating. However, if you want to allow players to use flight in creative mode, with elytra, or through mods and plugins, you can enable the Allow Flight option in your server settings. This guide shows you how to configure this setting using the Wabbanode Control Panel.

Enabling Allow Flight

  1. Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and select your Minecraft server.
  2. Stop your server if it is currently running. You cannot modify server settings while the server is online. Stopping a Minecraft server using the Wabbanode Panel
  3. Click Settings to access your server properties. Accessing Minecraft server properties on the Wabbanode Panel
  4. Scroll down to locate the Allow Flight option. Locating the Allow Flight option in server.properties for a Minecraft Server
  5. Enable the Allow Flight toggle by clicking it. Enabling flight on a Minecraft server using the Wabbanode Panel
  6. Click Save Config at the top of the page to apply your changes. Saving config changes to the server.properties file of a Minecraft Server on the Wabbanode Panel
  7. Start your server.

Once the server has started, players will be able to fly in creative mode or when using items and mods that grant flight abilities.

What Does Allow Flight Do?

The Allow Flight setting controls whether the server's anti-cheat system will kick players for flying. When disabled, the server automatically kicks players who appear to be flying, even if they are using legitimate flight methods such as:

  • Creative mode flight - Players in creative mode use the double-jump mechanic to fly.
  • Elytra - Players gliding with elytra may be kicked if the server detects suspicious movement patterns.
  • Flight-granting mods or plugins - Certain mods and plugins give players flight abilities that require this setting to be enabled.

Enabling Allow Flight turns off these automatic kicks, allowing legitimate flight while still relying on other anti-cheat measures or plugins to prevent actual cheating.

Troubleshooting

  • Changes not taking effect. Make sure you clicked Save Config before restarting your server. If the setting reverts, check that you have the correct permissions to modify server settings.
  • Players still getting kicked. Some anti-cheat plugins may have their own flight detection that overrides the server setting. Check your plugin configurations if players are still being kicked for flying.
  • Flight not working in survival mode. The Allow Flight setting only prevents the server from kicking players for flying. It does not grant flight abilities. Players still need creative mode, elytra, or a mod/plugin that provides flight.

Enabling the Allow Flight setting in your Minecraft server configuration prevents the server from kicking players who use legitimate flight mechanics. This is essential for creative mode servers, elytra users, and servers running mods or plugins that grant flight abilities.
