Banning players allows you to remove disruptive users from your Minecraft server and prevent them from rejoining. You can ban players by username or IP address, and unban them later if needed. This guide covers how to ban and unban players using in-game commands or the server console in the Wabbanode Control Panel.
Before You Begin
To run ban commands in-game, you must have operator (OP) permissions on your server. If you need to grant yourself OP status, see our guide on How to Give Operator to a Player on Your Minecraft Server.
Alternatively, you can run these commands directly from the server console in the Wabbanode Control Panel without needing OP permissions.
Banning Players via Console
You can also ban players using the server console in the Wabbanode Control Panel:
- Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and select your Minecraft server.
- Click Console.

- Enter one of the following commands in the console input field:
- Ban by username:
ban <playername> [reason]
- Ban by IP address:
ban-ip <ip-address> [reason]
- Ban by username:
- Press Enter to execute the command.
Note that console commands do not require the / prefix used in-game.
Examples:
/ban Steve Griefing- Bans the player "Steve" with the reason "Griefing"/ban-ip 192.168.1.100 Alt account- Bans all players connecting from that IP address
The banned player will be immediately kicked from the server and will not be able to rejoin.

Viewing the Ban List
To see all currently banned players:
- In-game (requires OP):
/banlistor/banlist ips - Via console:
banlistorbanlist ips
The banlist command shows banned usernames, while banlist ips displays banned IP addresses.
Understanding Username Bans vs IP Bans
Username bans (/ban) prevent a specific player account from joining your server. The banned player can still join if they use a different Minecraft account.
IP bans (/ban-ip) prevent all players connecting from a specific IP address from joining. This is useful for:
- Blocking players who switch accounts to evade username bans
- Preventing access from shared networks or VPNs
Be cautious with IP bans, as they may affect multiple players if they share the same network or if the banned player's IP address changes and is reassigned to someone else.
Troubleshooting
- Commands not working in-game. Ensure you have operator permissions. See our guide on How to Give Operator to a Player on Your Minecraft Server.
- Player can still join after being banned. Double-check that you spelled the username correctly. Minecraft usernames are case-sensitive. You can also try banning by IP address instead.
- Unable to unban a player. Verify the spelling of the username or IP address. Use
/banlistto see the exact entry in the ban list.
Banning and unbanning players gives you control over who can access your Minecraft server. Whether you use in-game commands or the Wabbanode Control Panel console, managing your server's ban list helps maintain a positive community environment.
