The level type setting determines how your Minecraft world is generated, controlling terrain features, biome distribution, and world structure. Changing the level type allows you to create different world experiences, from standard survival worlds to flat creative builds or amplified terrain. This guide shows you how to configure the level type using the Wabbanode Control Panel.
Important: World Reset Required
Changing the level type only affects new world generation. To apply a new level type, you must reset your world, which will delete all existing terrain, structures, and player builds. Make sure to create a backup before proceeding.
See our guide on How to Reset Your Minecraft Server World for detailed instructions.
Changing the Level Type
- Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and select your Minecraft server.
- Stop your server if it is currently running. You cannot modify server settings while the server is online.

- Click Settings to access your server properties.

- Scroll down to locate the Level-type field and enter your desired level type.

- Click the Save button at the top of the page to apply your changes.

- Reset your world to generate a new world with the selected level type.
Once your server starts with the new world, the selected level type will determine how the terrain generates as players explore.
Available Level Types
| Level Type | Description |
|---|---|
| default | Standard world generation with normal terrain, biomes, caves, and structures. This is the default setting for most servers. |
| flat | Creates a completely flat world with customizable layers. Ideal for creative building, mini-games, or testing. |
| large_biomes | Generates the same terrain as default, but with biomes that are 4× larger. Creates vast, expansive biomes for extended exploration. |
| amplified | Produces extremely tall and dramatic terrain with exaggerated mountains and valleys. Requires more server resources and may cause performance issues. |
| single_biome_surface | Generates a world with only one biome type. Requires additional configuration to specify which biome. (Minecraft 1.16+) |
Troubleshooting
- Level type not changing. Ensure you clicked Save Config and reset your world after changing the setting. The level type only affects new world generation.
- Server crashes after selecting amplified. Amplified worlds require substantial server resources. Consider upgrading your server plan or choosing a different level type.
- Invalid level type error. Make sure you are using a valid level type name exactly as shown in the table above. Level type names are case-sensitive in some versions.
Changing the level type on your Minecraft server allows you to customize world generation to match your server's gameplay style. Remember that you must reset your world for the new level type to take effect, so be sure to back up any important data before making changes.
