How to Disable Minecraft Mob Griefing on Your Server

Learn how to disable Minecraft mob griefing so creepers, endermen, Minecraft zombies, Minecraft villagers, and other mobs stop damaging blocks and builds.

You can disable mob griefing on your Minecraft server so creepers, endermen, and other Minecraft mobs stop damaging blocks and builds. Mob griefing in Minecraft is any mob behaviour that changes the world around it, like breaking blocks or trampling crops, and turning it off is done through a single gamerule, one of the more practical Minecraft server commands for protecting bases and farms. Once it's off, your builds are safe from most mob-caused griefing.

What Mob Griefing Covers

The mobGriefing gamerule affects a wide range of mob behaviour, covering both Minecraft hostile mobs like creepers and endermen and Minecraft passive mobs like sheep and villagers. With it disabled:

  • Creepers still explode but no longer destroy terrain or blocks.
  • Endermen stop picking up and placing blocks.
  • Zombies can no longer break down wooden doors.
  • Ravagers stop destroying blocks as they charge.
  • Sheep can no longer eat grass blocks to regrow wool.
  • Villagers stop trampling farmland and picking up items to farm.
  • Withers still deal damage but no longer break blocks.

These changes affect nearly all Minecraft mobs that can alter the world around it, from a wandering Minecraft villager to a raiding Minecraft zombie horde.

How to Disable It

Turning off mob griefing in Minecraft only takes a single console command.

  1. Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and open your Console. Wabbanode Console
  2. Type the following command and press Enter: /gamerule mobGriefing false

This Minecraft mob griefing command takes effect immediately, and no restart is needed. To turn griefing back on later, run /gamerule mobGriefing true.

Making It Permanent

Gamerules are saved in your world's level.dat file, so the setting persists across restarts once you've set it. If you generate a new world or want the rule applied automatically every time, add the command to a startup datapack or an in-game command block set to run on load.

Minecraft mob griefing is now off, so creepers, endermen, and the rest of your Minecraft mobs can't damage blocks or builds anymore.
