World seeds determine how Minecraft generates terrain, biomes, structures, and other world features. Using a specific seed allows you to create a world with known characteristics, recreate popular seeds, or ensure all players start in the same world layout. This guide shows you how to set a custom world seed using the Wabbanode Control Panel.
Important: Seeds Require a New World
The seed setting only applies when generating a new world. If your server already has an existing world, you must reset it for the seed to take effect. Make sure to back up your current world before proceeding.
See our guide on How to Reset Your Minecraft Server World for instructions on creating a new world.
Setting a World Seed
- Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and select your Minecraft server.
- Stop your server if it is currently running. You cannot modify server settings while the server is online.

- Click Settings to access your server properties.

- Locate the Level-seed field and enter your desired seed value. You can use numbers, text, or a combination of both.

- Click the Save buttom at the top of the page to apply your changes.

- If you have an existing world, reset it to generate a new world with the seed. If this is a fresh server with no world yet, simply Start your server.
The server will generate a new world using the specified seed when it starts.
Troubleshooting
- Seed not generating expected world. Ensure you reset your world after setting the seed. Seeds only apply to newly generated worlds, not existing ones.
- Different terrain than expected. Check that your Minecraft version matches the version the seed was designed for. Seeds generate differently across versions.
- Seed field appears blank. If you didn't set a seed, Minecraft auto-generates one. You can see the seed by running
/seedin-game or checking the server console during world generation. - World looks wrong after setting seed. Verify your Level Type setting matches what the seed was designed for (usually "default"). Different level types produce different results.
Setting a world seed on your Minecraft server gives you control over world generation, allowing you to create specific landscapes, find rare biomes easily, or recreate popular seeds. Remember to reset your world after changing the seed for it to take effect.
