The party system is the core of Skyrim Together Reborn's multiplayer experience. Understanding how parties work is essential for a smooth co-op playthrough.
A party is a group of players who share the same game world state. When you form a party:
- One player becomes the Party Leader (hosts the world state)
- Other players become Party Members (guests in the leader's world)
- Quest progression, NPCs, and world changes sync through the leader
Party Leader Responsibilities
The party leader has special responsibilities because their game state is used as the "source of truth":
| Responsibility | Description |
|---|---|
| Quest Interactions | Must interact with quest-giving NPCs to start quests |
| Dialogue Choices | All dialogue decisions are made by the leader |
| Quest Items | Must loot quest-critical items (e.g., the Golden Claw) |
| Scripted Events | Must trigger important scripted sequences |
All dialogue choices made by the party leader are displayed to other players as text notifications, so everyone can follow the story.
What Party Members Can Do
Party members are not limited to just following the leader:
- Kill quest monsters and bosses
- Clear dungeons and defeat enemies
- Solve puzzles
- Explore the world freely
- Accept quests (but shouldn't progress them until the leader does)
Best Practices
Stick to One Party Leader
Changing the party leader mid-playthrough can break current quests and may cause issues with future quests. Choose your party leader at the start and stick with them.
One Party Per Server
While multiple parties are technically possible, it is strongly recommended to only have one party per server. Multiple parties can cause:
- Quest interference between groups
- Synchronization conflicts
- Unexpected behavior
Save Frequently
- Press F5 to quicksave before major quest progression
- Quicksave before scripted events and boss fights
- Keep autosave enabled as a backup
Communication
- Coordinate before entering quest areas
- Let the leader initiate quest dialogues
- Wait for the leader at quest markers
Auto Party Join
Servers can enable Auto Party Join to simplify the party system:
- When enabled, players automatically join the existing party if there's only one on the server
- Eliminates the need for manual party invitations
- Ideal for servers dedicated to a single friend group
To configure this setting, see How to Configure Auto Party Join.
