Valheim is primarily a PvE (player versus environment) game, but it includes a consent-based PvP system for players who want to duel. Both players must enable PvP on themselves before they can damage each other.
If you die in PvP, you lose your inventory just like any other death in Valheim. Only PvP with players you trust.
Enabling PvP
- Join your Valheim server.
- Press Tab to open your inventory and click the swords icon in the top right corner.

- A message will appear: Friendly Fire Enabled.

You can now deal damage to other players who also have PvP enabled.
Both players must enable PvP for combat to work. If only one player has it enabled, neither can damage the other.
Disabling PvP
- Press Tab to open your inventory and click the crossed swords icon again to uncross them.

- A message will appear: Friendly Fire Disabled.

You are now safe from PvP combat.
You now know how to enable and disable PvP in Valheim. Remember that both players must have PvP enabled for combat to work.
