The "Mismatched Mod Channel List" error appears when you try to connect to a modded server but the mods on your client don't match the mods on the server. Both sides must have the same mods and versions to connect successfully.
This error affects Forge and NeoForge servers. Fabric servers have a similar error with different wording.
What Causes This Error
Forge and NeoForge check that your client's mod list matches the server's mod list when you connect. If any mod is missing, extra, or a different version on either side, the connection is refused.
Common causes include:
- Manually uploading mods to the server instead of using the modpack installer, resulting in a different set of mods than your client.
- Updating a modpack on one side but not the other. For example, updating the modpack in CurseForge but not on the server.
- Adding or removing individual mods on the server or client without making the same change on the other side.
Fixing With the Modpack Installer (Recommended)
The easiest way to keep your client and server in sync is to use the same modpack from the same source on both sides.
On the server: Install or reinstall the modpack using the one-click modpack installer on the Wabbanode panel. See How to Install Any Modpack on Your Minecraft Server for steps.
On your PC: Install the same modpack using a launcher like CurseForge or Modrinth. See How to Install Minecraft Modpacks on Your PC for steps.
When a modpack releases an update, make sure to update both sides. Use the one-click updater on the Wabbanode panel and update the modpack in your launcher.
Fixing Manually
If you're running a custom modpack or have manually configured your mods, you'll need to compare the mod lists on both sides.
- Navigate to the Wabbanode Control Panel and click Files, then open the
mods/folder. - Open your local
mods/folder on your PC. This is typically located in your modpack's instance folder within your launcher. - Compare the two folders. Every mod
.jarfile should be present on both sides with the same version. - Upload any missing mods to the server, or download any missing mods to your client. Remove any extras that only exist on one side.
- Restart your server and try connecting again.
Some mods are client-only (e.g., minimap mods, shaders, Optifine) and should only be installed on your PC. These won't cause the mismatch error as they don't register network channels. The error comes from gameplay mods that communicate between client and server.
Troubleshooting
- Error persists after matching mods. Check that the mod versions match exactly. The same mod with a different version will still cause a mismatch.
- Not sure which mods are mismatched. The error message in the Minecraft client lists the specific mod channels that differ. Compare these channel names against your installed mods to identify the culprit.
- Modpack updated but server still has old version. Update the modpack on the server using the one-click installer to get the latest version.
The "Mismatched Mod Channel List" error is resolved by ensuring your client and server have the same mods and versions. Using the modpack installer on the panel and a launcher like CurseForge on your PC is the easiest way to keep both sides in sync.
